Is Low Carb Diet Such As Atkins Diet And The South Beach Diet Good For You?

The low carb diet is considered to be the best fad diet. There are several well-known versions of the low carb diet, the most popular are Atkins Diet and The South Beach Diet. Low carb diets are used as a tool to control weight, the diets have also been identified to benefit patients with diabetes, cancer, and epilepsy.

Many celebrities such as Madonna, Paris Hilton, Jennifer Aniston, Donald Trump and  Minnie Driver have all followed low carb diet. However, before starting, it is good to first understand how it works. The basic idea behind low carb diet is that if you consume less carbohydrates your body will burn more fat. This is because when we consume carbohydrates, the body insulin tells the body to start burning the carbohydrates that was just eaten instead of our body fat. By reducing the carbohydrates intake your body have no choice but to burn fat.

So is a low carb diet right for everyone?

Many studies have shown that weight loss in low carb diet is mostly from water loss. In additional experts agree low carb diet can only provide weight loss during the first six months, they also warn that adverse health conditions can be intensified after six months. Although a low carb diet can be beneficial, whether a low carb diet is right for you is something only your doctor and your health professional can determine.
